K-12 + higher Education
Since 1990, we’ve been designing schools that feel alive with possibility. From Kansas City, Topeka, and Oklahoma City, our team partners with educators, students, and communities to shape spaces that reflect each district’s vision and support the way learning happens today and tomorrow. Schools aren’t just buildings. They are where curiosity grows, friendships form, and futures take shape. At SDG, we listen first and design with people at the center. Because it matters.
Jardine Elementary and Middle School
Topeka, KS
Topeka Collegiate School
Topeka, KS
The Jardine K-8 Campus building is the largest project out of Topeka USD 501's $150 million bind issue passed in 2014. It is a $28 million, five track, pre-K through 6th grade that is being constructed next to and sharing some services with the existing Jardine Middle School. This project requires extensive site work including new on-site drives and parking lots, relocating a football field and handling storm water. The new building includes new media centers for both the elementary and middle schools, storm shelters constructed to FEMA standards and a design that reconciles the connection of the existing building's three different floor levels with the new building in a central commons space.
This project was a comprehensive classroom addition and remodeling project aimed at enhancing the educational environment. This initiative successfully added five new classrooms and various collaborative spaces, significantly expanding the school's capacity to support student development and engagement. The classrooms are dedicated to key subjects, including art, science, math, music, and world languages, thereby providing a diverse array of learning opportunities tailored to the needs of modern students. The project also involved a thoughtful renovation of the front of the school including the integration of a state-of-the-art storm shelter, ensuring the safety of students and staff.

A centerpiece of the new facility is the large mural depicting the events around the historic Brown versus the Board of Education Supreme Court decision which ruled segregation unconstitutional. the Bishop Professional Development Center was funded by a 2014 bond.
The Washburn University Champions Suite is a new courtside viewing experience that provides eye level and upper level viewing experiences to both patrons and students. The lower level features a 2,400 s.f. lounge with an elevated drink rail and serving counter to entertain its patrons. It boasts a variety of ways to mingle and view the action. The feature is the full length curtain wall at court level directly behind the north goal. While the lower level is a private atmosphere with courtside action, the upper deck has a standing view of the whole court with the open-air atmosphere which is perfect to energize and engage the fans.
